Fewer Veterans Enrolling at Elite Schools

Inside Higher Ed reports that the number of veterans enrolled at elite undergraduate colleges has dropped from 232 in 2011 to 168 in 2013. Wick Sloane asks why.

In this year’s News21 project, two dozen top student journalists from 12 universities are investigating the struggles and blinding bureaucracy confronting returning veterans after more than a decade of war in Afghanistan and Iraq.

Are they benefiting from the many promises of the federal government and Congress? Has their service to the country resulted in education assistance, job opportunities and critical medical and mental health care? Or will the remnants of war forever follow them as well as their families?
